Yan Sergienko

Ukrainian serviceman. In the spring of 2022, he was taken prisoner in Mariupol. On 18 March 2024, a court in the occupied part of the Donetsk region of Ukraine sentenced him to 27 years in a strict regime colony on charges of attempted murder, employing prohibited methods of warfare and damage to property: according to the prosecution, he, together with other Ukrainian servicemen, shelled residential houses and civilian infrastructure on the outskirts of Mariupol. In addition, a case was opened against him on charges of participation in the activities of a terrorist organisation due to his involvement in the activities of the Azov battalion. In January 2026, the case was referred to court. On 17 March 2026, Sergiyenko was sentenced to 28 years' imprisonment in a strict regime colony on this case, taking into account the previous sentence.
