The Fortanga publication wrote from the words of a source close to the imam that the search may be related to his criticism of the Ingush authorities after the shooting at the Moscow office of Wildberries, which resulted in the deaths of two guards from the republic. Another source of the newspaper says that Tamaskhanov took part in the ceremony of welcoming the bodies of the dead guards at the airport and delivered a sermon to those gathered, in which he called on them not to allow inter-ethnic discord.
On 19 September, the day after the shooting, the imam commented on it in his Telegram channel: "Yesterday we said 'Inna li Llyah1i in inna ilaih1i roaji1un' on the occasion of the death of our brothers. But today we say these words lamenting the cowardice of the leaders of our republic."
In April 2025, Tamaskhanov and another imam, Magomed Sultygov, were charged with failure to report a terrorist offence. According to the investigation, they had been in contact with Hussein Ganiev, an alleged accomplice of the "Amirkhan Gurazhev group" that attacked the DSS post in 2023, and although they knew of his involvement in terrorist activities, they did not report it to law enforcement agencies. Tamaskhanov himself believes that the reason for the persecution was that he was the first in Ingushetia to hold a public discussion of innovations in Islam and to open a mosque in Nazran, which became popular, although he was "told not to do so". The persecution may also be related to the fact that the imam criticised the leadership of Ingushetia and Chechnya, Fortanga notes.
During a court hearing in Tamaskhanov's case (he and Sultygov are being tried separately), a secret witness said that he regularly visited his mosque, but could not name the street, describe the building or specify the time of prayer. At another hearing, another witness stated that he had given false testimony against Tamaskhanov during the investigation.
