Police officers and masked individuals without identification marks came to Nora, a venue in St Petersburg, where the project “People and Letters” was planning to hold an evening dedicated to writing letters to political prisoners on 5 November from 19:00 to 21:00. According to reports from SOTAvision citing one of the participants, the security forces checked attendees’ passports and released them without drawing up reports.
“In the end, they looked at our passports, held us for two hours and did nothing,” said a participant in the gathering.
According to RusNews, the police came to the venue following a tip-off. Who filed it and what the complaint was about remains unknown.
The “People and Letters” project organises events where participants write letters to political prisoners. In October, the team announced the opening of a branch in St Petersburg. Previously, the project held gatherings in Moscow, including at “Open Space.”
