Yevgeniya Berkovich has been sent to solitary confinement for the third time. There she is not being given the necessary medication.

Director and poet Yevgeniya Berkovich has been sent to the punishment isolation cell (SHIZO) for the third time at the Kostroma region’s IK-3 “Pribrezhnaya” penal colony, where she is serving a sentence on charges of “justifying terrorism.” Since 16 September, Berkovich has been in SHIZO for 15 days for “minor violations,” reports Novaya Gazeta.

According to the publication, in SHIZO Berkovich is not receiving the medication she needs. The colony has explained this by saying that the doctor who should write the prescription is on leave.

Previously, Berkovich had also been sent to SHIZO several times. The reasons were: not putting her hands behind her back quickly enough, wearing a headscarf incorrectly, and not making her bed on time.

Berkovich and playwright Svetlana Petriychuk were arrested in May 2023 because of the play “Finist the Brave Falcon.” Investigators claimed that the play justifies terrorism. Both Berkovich and Petriychuk denied any guilt.

In July 2024, the Second Western District Military Court sentenced them to six years in a penal colony. Later, an appeal reduced Berkovich’s sentence by five months.

In February 2025, she was transferred to IK-3 in Kostroma region, a city to the northeast of Moscow. In August of the same year, the Supreme Court upheld the sentence.
