The Kurchatov District Court of Chelyabinsk has sentenced another supporter of Maoism to 10 days in jail. His acquaintances reported this.
They believe that, like the previously detained supporter of Maoism, he was found guilty of organising an unauthorised protest (Article 20.2 of the Code of Administrative Offences).
On the morning of 10 April, law enforcement officers came to two supporters of Maoism in Chelyabinsk, a major city in the Urals. The young woman was taken to the police station, while the young man did not open the door despite threats of being charged with disobeying police. On the same day, the detained woman was sentenced to 10 days in jail.
Two days later, the young man was detained in Yekaterinburg, a large city in the Urals. He was then taken back to Chelyabinsk.
Both supporters of Maoism were detained because of a banner displayed in Chelyabinsk on 29 March. It read: ‘Maoists: Russians need communication! No to blocking Telegram.’
18:28 The “Maoist Union” claims that after his detention in Yekaterinburg, the young man was beaten for two days by officers from the Centre for Combating Extremism. For another day, his whereabouts in a Chelyabinsk police station were not disclosed.
The Telegram channel also reports that 25 litres of water were delivered to the detained woman at the detention centre. According to the “Maoist Union,” this delivery was arranged by police officers to make it harder for her to receive essential items and food. The total weight of goods allowed during administrative detention must not exceed 30 kilograms.
