The Kurchatovsky District Court in Chelyabinsk has sentenced another Maoist supporter to 10 days in detention. Their friends told OVD-Info about the case.
They believe that, just like the previously detained Maoist supporter, the individual has been found guilty of organising an unsanctioned protest (Article 20.2 of the Code of Administrative Offences).
On the morning of 10 April, security forces came to visit two Maoist supporters in Chelyabinsk, a large city in the Urals. The young woman was taken to the police station, while the young man did not open the door for them, despite their threats to issue a protocol of disobedience. Later that same day, the detained woman was sentenced to ten days in detention.
Two days later, the young man was detained in Yekaterinburg, a major city in the Urals, and was then brought back to Chelyabinsk.
Both Maoist supporters were detained because of a banner that had been hung up in Chelyabinsk on 29 March. The banner read: ‘Maoists: Russians need communication! No to blocking Telegram.’
18:28 The ‘Maoist Union’ claims that after the young man’s detention in Yekaterinburg, officers from Centre ‘E’ beat him for two days. They then did not reveal his whereabouts in Chelyabinsk police custody for another day.
The Telegram channel also reports that the detained young woman was given 25 litres of water in the special detention facility. The ‘Maoist Union’ believes that the police made this delivery in order to make it more difficult for her to receive other essential items and food. During the period of administrative detention, the volume of packages sent to a detainee must not exceed 30 kilogrammes.
