A court in Moscow has sentenced political scientist Ekaterina Shulman in absentia to one year in prison on charges of failing to comply with the obligations of a “foreign agent” (Part 2 of Article 330.1 of the Criminal Code). This was reported by Mediazona.
The state prosecutor requested a sentence of one year and eleven months in prison. She listed the fact that Shulman has underage children as a mitigating circumstance. As an aggravating factor, the prosecutor identified a motive of political hatred or enmity.
A criminal case against the political scientist was opened over three publications on the Teletype platform without the “foreign agent” label. The prosecution also claimed that she posted a video on YouTube without the required marking. Previously, Shulman had been fined at least twice in administrative cases for violating “foreign agent” legislation (Article 19.34 of the Code of Administrative Offences).
At the trial, witness for the prosecution Anzhelika Shchedrova testified that she monitors Shulman’s publications and accused her of “working against Russia.”
