The court has found the deputy chair of Yabloko guilty of failing to fulfil the obligations of a ‘foreign agent’ (Part 2 of Article 330.1 of the Criminal Code), reports RusNews.
Last week, Shlosberg dedicated part of his closing statement to victims of political repression and read out the names of people who were executed in Pskov—a city in north-western Russia—during the years of terror. The politician noted that the current ‘foreign agent’ legislation is overshadowed by the “terrible shadow of 20th-century political repression.”
“Until freedom, the rule of law and peace come to our country, the future will not return to our country,” he said.
Shlosberg has been included on the ‘foreign agents’ list since June 2023. Since then, he has included the required notice in his publications. The investigation claimed that he published a video without the ‘foreign agent’ label.
- Another criminal case has been opened against the politician under the article on discrediting the army. He has been placed under house arrest as part of this case.
- The prosecution was initiated after a video debate between Shlosberg and historian Yury Pivovarov was posted on Odnoklassniki, having originally been broadcast on the “Zhivoy Gvozd” YouTube channel. According to Shlosberg, he did not post the video and does not manage the page in question.
- During the debate, Pivovarov argued against entering into a peace agreement that would be unfavourable for Ukraine, while his opponent insisted on an immediate ceasefire.
