A case has been opened against economist Vladislav Inozemtsev for failing to fulfil the obligations of a “foreign agent.”

The Investigative Committee reports that Inozemtsev, who lives abroad, has been declared wanted.

A criminal case was initiated because the economist published their materials without the required “foreign agent” label.

The Ministry of Justice added Inozemtsev to the “foreign agent” register in May 2023. Since then, they have been fined four times under administrative cases for non-compliance with the “foreign agent” law.

• Since October, to initiate a criminal case for evading “foreign agent” obligations, only one administrative fine is required. Previously, criminal prosecution could begin only after two administrative penalties.
• According to OVD-Info’s calculations, as of the end of September, due to these amendments, at least 168 people now face new criminal prosecution.
