Sergei Lopatin, a 29-year-old biologist, has been arrested in absentia in connection with a case on military “fake news” (clause “d” part 2 article 207.3 of the Criminal Code) and placed on an interstate wanted list. This was reported by Ostorozhno, novosti.
A criminal case was opened against Lopatin back in 2024 over a post on Bucha on VKontakte; later, the biologist was added to a federal wanted list.
Lopatin graduated from Moscow State University and worked as a school biology teacher in Moscow, volunteered with human rights organisations, and spoke out publicly against the war. He was fined and dismissed from one school after a solo protest with a placard reading: “When I was a child I was taught: ‘As long as there’s no war.’ Now I am a teacher. And I don’t know what to say to my students.” He was later detained after a rally against mobilisation and dismissed from a second school. Following this, the biologist left Russia.
While in exile, Lopatin began popularising biology—running a Telegram channel and holding educational lectures. He has developed several courses, including “The Biology of War.”
The creator of the “Biology of War” course has been arrested in absentia on charges of spreading military “fake news.”
