The Odintsovo City Court (Moscow Region) has sentenced dog handler Anastasia Zibrova to five years in a penal colony under the article on “military fakes” (Paragraph “d” Part 2 Article 207.3 of the Russian Criminal Code); the case was reconsidered. This was reported in the stories of Zibrova’s lawyer, Oskar Cherdzhiev.

Zibrova was accused over a VKontakte post about the missile strike on Kramatorsk railway station. In May 2024, she was sentenced to five years in prison, and was also banned from administering websites for four years. However, this May, the cassation court overturned the sentence, and the case was returned to the prosecutor’s office. The reason for overturning the verdict was that the wording in the indictment went beyond the charges that had previously been brought.

On reconsideration, Zibrova was given the same term in the colony, but the website administration ban was reduced by one year.

  • The case against Anastasia Zibrova was initiated in October 2023. At first, she was placed under a travel ban, but in May 2024 she was placed under house arrest. Zibrova was raising her daughter on her own and caring for her elderly grandmother.
  • After sentencing, she was held in Detention Centre No. 10 in Mozhaysk, Moscow Region (a medium-sized town west of Moscow), where, according to Zibrova, her access to books and communication with her daughter were restricted. She also complained about dirty windows in her cell, mould on the walls, and bars that blocked sunlight. Her letters were delivered late, and literature was not allowed through. In September, Zibrova was labelled as a “terrorist and extremist.”
  • In November 2024, the Moscow Regional Court upheld the sentence on appeal. In January this year, Zibrova was transferred to Penal Colony No. 8 in Kostroma (a city northeast of Moscow).
