The Butyrsky District Court in Moscow has sentenced 33-year-old Timur Magomedov to three and a half years in a general regime penal colony under the charge of financing an “extremist” organisation (Part 1, Article 282.3 of the Criminal Code). The verdict of 3 September was reported by SOTA.
In April this year, Magomedov and another Moscow resident, Dmitry Marsov, were placed in a pre-trial detention centre. Both were among the followers of FBK groups on VKontakte. In July this year, Marsov was sentenced to three years in a penal colony for transferring 1,500 roubles (about US$16) to the foundation.
Timur Magomedov’s case was submitted to the court in early June. According to SOTA, the hearings were held publicly but were not covered in the media at the request of the defendant’s family. Relatives had hoped that with minimal publicity Magomedov would receive a non-custodial sentence.
Other details of the case, including the amount Magomedov was accused of transferring, are unknown. Memorial has recognised him as a political prisoner.
